Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Please accept my request to add CISC 458 late. I was not able to add the course my the deadline due to me being undecided on the QUIP program. However, I am now decided that I will take this course and take the financial penalty of dropping if I want to do QUIP because I am leaning towards not doing QUIP.

I have:

(1) received written permission from the instructor to add the course late
(2) missed 0 deliverables
(3) willing to make up all missed content and attend the Jan 30th quiz on time

I am looking to enroll in a course you are teaching: CISC 458. I know it is after the deadline to enroll so I plan to take this up with the department head.

What would be very helpful would be for you to provide me with whether or not certain deliverables are already due or not, and generally to give me permission to take the course based on the number of deliverables I would miss.

I am very good with learning from a textbook, or though lecture slides. If I am able to enroll in the course, I will catch up with the lecture material and I will finish whatever deliverables I need to finish on time.

I have already done some online readings on compiler construction (which is what made me interested in the course).

If you are able to, please get to me as soon as you can. I am thankful for the consideration.

Hi Yiduo,

The tools we use in the course (S/SL, PT-Pascal) are very niche. Meaning that you will not find material that cover those topics other than in the lectures and textbook. If you think you can rely on the textbook to catchup, I don't mind you joining the course. You did not miss any deliverables, yet. However note that we have an upcoming Quiz (worth 5%) on Monday, Jan 30 during lecture time. The other deliverable for this course is a course project done in teams of 4. The teams started working on the project this week and the first phase is due on February 6th. I can fit you in a team, but will need to enrol this week so that you can start contributing to your team's project. Keep me in the loop.
