Petition Letter
Petition Letter: My name is Joshua Eason, I am a first-year student studying Life Science and Biochemistry. I am writing this appeal with the intention of making my case to add a FREN 107 to my schedule after missing the add deadline. In all honesty, there was not much other than a temporary illness and negligence getting in the way of my missing of the deadline. I contracted a flu like virus before the bulk of my exams, this affected my ability to study and write exams for Maths 121 and Chem 112. As a result, I was forced to take a deferral on both exams to be written in the returning week of classes. Unfortunately for me, my illness spanned through most of the break, significantly affecting my ability to study even on my time off. I do believe in leniency, but this is also no excuse for poor academic performance. Rather, I am now in a position where I must bolster my standing to finish the year off in the way I had originally intended. I seem to have been blundered by the hectic adjustment to university and have been rather overwhelmed by the number of activities and events happening all at once. But through the unclarity I have been able to determine that I need to make a change to my academics (which will be further discussed in the academic plan section). My parents have always told me that university is a period of discovery. Therefore, I??ve concluded that working under conditions where I no longer enjoy my topic of study makes it much harder to perform to my fullest extent. I feel that taking French and redirecting my studies will benefit me going forward. I have an extensive background in French, including kindergarten to grade 8 full French education, continued French studies in grade 9-10, IB bilingual French grade 11-12 and a DELF B1 certificate for French studies. I believe this combination of experience and passion makes me an ideal candidate to revisit my French education.
Academic Plan
Academic Plan: As I mentioned, I contracted a virus shortly before my exams, affecting my ability to study effectively and perform to my fullest extent. But this is not the main reason as to why I want to take on another course, and a language one at that. For the greater part of my life, I??ve always wanted to attend university with the intention of ending up in a health care related profession. However, in this short time at Queens, I have had the exposure to the business world that I??ve long sought after. This exposure has driven me to take on a position as executive sponsorship coordinator at the Tri-Colour Classic and join the Queens Private Capital Group membership program. Additionally, I??ve had the chance to attend the QSELF and CEEC conferences, further driving my desire to change my study direction. With that being said, I intent on applying as to Commerce as an upper year candidate and Arts and Science for economics. It has always been a passion of mine to travel and learn about linguistics in different countries, I believe that having language skills makes a great business candidate, which heavily influences why I want to take French. Finally, I have recently felt the pressure of high workloads and understand that I must become more dedicated to my studies, taking this additional course will allow me to better some practical language skills and remain on course to execute a transfer at year end.
