Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Academic),
My name is Serena Rubino. I am a first-year student. I am writing to you in hopes of switching my ASTR 101 course with ENIN 140. I was trying to make up around 6.0 credits due to the fact that I dropped MATH 121, so I picked up ASTR 101. This course has a very heavy workload for me and is taking time away from my other courses like biology, chemistry, and psychology, which are more important for my major. This ASTR 101 course has become very stressful for me to keep up with and it is taking a toll on my mental health.
I was not doing well in calculus and if I continued in it I would have failed. This mark would have also affected my GPA greatly. I also feel that by sticking with ASTR 101 it will do the same thing. After researching ENIN 140 I??ve come to realize that I am very interested in what this course entails and I believe I will excel given the opportunity to participate in this course. This course would provide me with the knowledge that will help me with my future job opportunities and real-life situations.
When accessing this course on my SOLUS account I do see that there are still three seats open in the class, so I am hoping to fill one of those open seats.
I do not want to fall behind in credits, since it might put me in a bad position in the coming years. I want to stay on track and I believe that picking up this course will help with that. I am feeling very overwhelmed with this course and is taking away my focus from my gateway courses.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: My academic plan for this appeal is to make my workload lighter in order to focus on my gateway courses for my major, which is more important for my degree. It will also help my mental health and stress levels go down by taking away this overwhelming course. I did not expect this course to take up so much of my time that I should be spending on my other courses. It is making me feel like I??m falling behind. It was very overwhelming to see that a quiz that was worth 10% of my mark was 50 multiple choice questions that are supposedly harder than the exam. This is not what I expected from this course. In the end this is just an elective course for me and it's not a gateway course so I did not except this big time commitment.
