Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am a second year student who has been battling with depression since my diagnosis last February. I made a mistake right off the bat and didn't ensure or confirm that my original appeal I sent in January, when I decided to take the semester off, was accepted. Since I have been diagnosed I have had a very hard time trying to juggle both school, and my mental illness. With the time off this semester I believe I made the right decision while dealing with my diagnosis, and not jeopardizing my grades in the meantime. I am a very committed student and am only thinking of my academic future. I tried to drop all of my courses when I made my decision to take time off in January, having success with the exception of SOCY 211. I have not attended nor participated in any of the assessments or classes as I have not been in Kingston for several months now. I would like to appeal my final grade of 0 so I can make future successful strides without this in my way, in my academic future.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: With my time off, I have been able to think hard about my future and wanted to keep my options open. I applied to the Sport Media program at Ryerson. I am still contemplating whether to proceed with that or return to my time at Queen's, which I have so thoroughly treasured. I do not want a mark that I did not put my full effort into, to disrupt my academic future. I know with my time off, and taking care of myself, that I am only more prepared for my future studies and am ready to take on anything and would not want this to get in the way of that.

Thank you for your time,

Colleen O'Kelly
