Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to petition for a late drop of the following courses: STAT 263, PHIL 157 and HLTH 101. I am aware that my academic performance during the previous term has not met the satisfactory requirements, and I am seeking your assistance to help me address this situation.

The reason for my petition is due to extenuating circumstances that were beyond my control, which significantly impacted my academic performance. The impact of these challenges has been pervasive and has affected my academic performance in all my classes. I believe that these circumstances have a direct correlation with my final grade in the fall term.

I have been dealing with the loss of a close friend, which has been a significant source of emotional and mental stress. Additionally, during the grieving process, I had been experiencing severe roommate issues, which caused significant disruptions to my daily routine and made it difficult to find a conducive environment to study. Police had been called, and my house was not a safe environment. The constant disturbances made it challenging to concentrate on coursework and complete assignments on time. There are also psychological challenges rooted in a history of depression and anxiety, which were exacerbated by family problems in the fall term. During the semester, I was dealing with a significant family issue that required my attention and support. Unfortunately, this issue persisted throughout the semester and was emotionally taxing. As a result, I was unable to perform to the best of my ability in the three courses. I received a grade lower than I believe I am capable of achieving, and I believe this is a result of the extenuating circumstances that were affecting me during the semester.

These personal events beyond my control made it extremely difficult for me to focus on my academic responsibilities. I would like to request to drop the three courses. I understand that dropping a course late may have consequences, but I believe that these extenuating circumstances have significantly impacted my academic performance in this class. I am willing to take responsibility for the ramifications of dropping the course and understand that it may delay my graduation.

I understand that this is an exceptional request, but I believe that the circumstances were beyond my control, and I am committed to completing my degree. I have since taken several steps to address the extenuating circumstances recently, including seeking support from a mental health professional, creating a plan to manage circumstances while maintaining my current academic goals, and utilizing campus resources.

I would be grateful if you could consider my petition for a late drop of this course. If you require any further information or documentation regarding the extenuating circumstances, please let me know.
