Appeal Category Detail: Request to make to change course a Personal Interest Credit after Deadline

Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Hello, I hope this request finds you well.

I am requesting to make my PHIL275 class a personal interest credit pass the deadline to make such a change. I never intended to make this class a personal interest credit until I received my midterm mark back yesterday (march 9th). The mark was lower than expected and as such I spoke with Vanessa McCourt (the Kinesiology academic advisor) about making it a personal interest credit. She informed me it is past the deadline and, having considered my situation, recommended I submit a petition. I am enrolled in kinesiology and so PHIL275 was for me a challenging and exciting opportunity learn outside my familiar field. This request is not an attempt to absolve the responsibility to apply myself in this enrolled class, but rather a honest request to have this class reflect the fact that I took it out of a personal interest of the subject and that the deadline to do so was not indicative of when I could make that decision realistically.

Thank you for your time and I hope you will consider this.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: I obtained enough credits to graduate at the end of the 2022-2023 fall semester. However, I chose to enrol in classes for this winter semester because I currently have a work-study position at the Queen's office of faith and Spiritual life that I have found very fruitful for my learning and development which also requires me to be a full-time student to continue. I plan to graduate at the end of this semester but I filled this semester with classes that I found interesting (two PHIL classes and one PSYC Class). over the last two/two-in-a-half years I have found a wealth of inspiration in the classes I have taken and this naturally allowed me to succeed in them. My GPA has drastically improved and I even made the Dean's list. The Two other classes I am taking this semester look like they will follow this trend but my PHIL275 will most likely not. My hope is I can make it a personal interest credit so that it will not harm the improvement in my GPA I have found over the last few years.

Thank you again and all the best,

Jared Augustin (20112701)
