Petition Letter: March 13, 2023

To whom it may concern,

My name is Elijah Han, I am a fourth-year student currently pursuing a major in Political Studies. I am writing a letter now in hopes of being granted the ability to drop a course past the March 3rd deadline. The class I??m hoping to drop is POLS 354 Democratic Theory. Over the almost four years of my studies, I have had significant trouble with my mental health which has affected my ability to perform using my full capability. The first semester this year was a struggle to get through, but I managed to get through it and complete all my classes. It had been the first time is quite a while I was able to successfully make it through five courses in a semester. This semester the problems regarding mental health and my personal life have intensified further and performing academically has become extremely difficult. While struggling in all my classes POLS 354 has been particularly difficult to deal with as I??ve realized the broader subject of the course, political philosophy, is not my strong suit to say the least. At the end of February and going into reading week I was particularly unwell. The struggle in POLS 354, the rest of my other classes, and with my mental health troubles caused intense stress and anxiety which reached a boiling point during reading week and the week after. This prevented me from accomplishing school tasks and among other things.
Amidst dealing with an extremely difficult time over reading week and the week after I had missed the March 3rd deadline to drop the course. Moving forward in the semester, as I am still struggling with mental health and family related problems, I am really hoping to lighten my course load. I am sure with a less courses, specifically with 354 gone, I am sure both my school life and mental health will be more manageable, which is why I have begun this process. these circumstances, I am now requesting to be able to drop POLS 354.

P.S. I??ve yet to acquire supporting documentation as I am currently waiting to see my therapist. I will acquire documentation and submit it as soon as possible.
