Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello,
My name is Sebastian Deluca. I'm a third year student specializing in software design. I am writing this petition to request being able to drop a course, COMM 493, after the deadline to drop without receiving a failing grade. The reason why I didn't request to drop the course before the deadline was because before the deadline we did not really have any actual coursework due, so I wasn't really aware of the type of work we would have to do. There was one assignment due in late February, but more than 50% of students were given an extension because of reading week (and the week of tests/quizzes/assignments before it) that is currently still going.
One reason I want to drop the course is because it is an elective course, and the content of the course doesn't feel beneficial to my overall learning as a software developer. Also, despite attending a majority of the classes (and watching recorded lectures for those that I've missed), I don't feel as if I am learning anything. As a result of this, the aforementioned assignment has taken me forever to try to complete (I spent roughly 8-10 hours on Saturday alone trying to finish it, despite being roughly 50% done at that point), and is taking valuable time away from my core courses.
Furthermore, I am dealing with a lot of personal issues with my family that already have me at an elevated stress level, so a reduction in my course load, by way of dropping a course I do not need, would be very helpful. I plan to make up for dropping this course by taking a different elective course at some point during my internship term that will begin on May 1st. I would greatly appreciate an approval of this petition because it would benefit my learning in all of my core classes, and reduce my overall stress level for the remainder of the term.

Amendment to Appeal 10159
Relevant Petition: 10159
New Information: My parents are divorced and are currently in court revolving around child support payments. I am the only child of my parents who is still eligible for child support and, as a result, I am directly involved in the case. I have been dealing with both of my parents and their frustration about what is going on in court, as well as being the subject of multiple legal documents. I will provide documentation in this email as well as amend it to my request.
I will be amending to the petition pages of a legal document regarding the continuation of my child support payments where I am mentioned numerous times by name. Like I said before, I'm directly dealing both with my parents and with the things that come with essentially being the subject of a divorce-adjacent court case-- and as a result, I am extremely more stressed out than I usually would be. I would like to drop COMM 493 because, like I mentioned in my initial petition, it is an elective course that isn't really attributing to my overall learning nor to my development as a software developer, and I am stressed out enough as it is without having a course that is taking copious amounts of time away from my important courses without providing me with any real progress or new knowledge.
