Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing to petition to drop ANAT 316 (Winter) for the current semester. I am struggling with chronic pain and migraines, which have significantly affected my ability to attend classes, complete assignments, and participate in exams. The severity of my condition has recently worsened, leading to my hospitalization from February 24 through March 1, 2023. I was unable to attend classes or labs, nor complete assignments, which has resulted in a significant setback in my academic progress.
Given my condition, I have been finding it challenging to keep up with my coursework. Sitting for extended periods and concentrating for long periods of time is difficult. Particularly for ANAT 316, which is the most heavy workload course that I am taking this semester, it has been difficult for me to keep up with the course while being away. While I am taking medication to manage my symptoms, it has side effects that further limit my ability to focus and retain information.
I have consulted with my professors, who have been understanding of my situation, and they have advised me to consider dropping a course to manage my workload. I am requesting to drop ANAT 316, as it is the course that has been most affected by my condition, and I have been unable to attend the lectures and labs. I believe that dropping this course will allow me to focus on my other courses and achieve better grades.
Furthermore, I propose to retake ANAT 316 during the following academic year when my health is stable, and I can devote my full attention to the course. I want to assure you that I am committed to my academic goals, and I am actively seeking ways to manage my condition and return to full participation in my studies. I have been working with my healthcare providers to develop a treatment plan that will allow me to manage my symptoms while continuing my studies. I am exploring alternative courses that may be more suitable given my condition, and I am determined to complete my degree.
I understand that the drop deadline has passed, but due to the sudden and unexpected nature of my hospitalization, I was unable to take action earlier. I hope that you will consider my extenuating circumstances and grant my request to drop ANAT 316. I appreciate any assistance that you may be able to provide in this matter.
