Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I had a severe cold during the week of February 27-March 3, which meant I missed my ARTH 117 lecture on February 28. While guidance was already given for the assignment at the beginning of the semester, my absence meant I missed in-class instruction on a discussion post due that Friday, March 3. I was then unaware of the specific details of the assignment, and combined with my reduced ability to participate academically while I was trying to get over the sickness, I was unable to make the discussion post. I believe had I been well and able to attend class, I would not have missed the assignment being ill was a factor that was out of my control. This affected my other classes, and I required extensions on other assignments to complete them once I felt better. I have spoken with my teacher and she is happy to allow me to resubmit the assignment now that I am well provided I am able to get this accommodation. Moving forward, I will be more forward thinking when I am not feeling well and ask my teachers for help beforehand, but in this case, the issue was not that I neglected to ask for help, it was that I was unaware the assignment was due. Success in this course means a lot to me and while it is an elective course, I hope to rectify this issue to keep my GPA high enough to get into my desired program next year.
