Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Stephenson
My name is XinYi Zheng, and my student id is 20359832. I am a first-year student in our faculty. I am writing this petition to waive the deadline of withdrawal and please allow me to withdraw all my current courses this time. After consulting with my faculty advisor, I am suggested to write this appeal letter to you by stating my extenuating circumstance and hopefully I could earn your understanding and support this time. I have to say that as an international student, learning in Queen??s University is very challenging, especially when I have to concern about my family situation and help to take care of my mother in this term. I went back to China on Jan. 31 this year since my mother was sick and was diagnosed as breast cancer. I went back and accompanied her to visit more hospitals for checkup and comfort her emotion. Due to this family crisis, I had to delay my flight back to Toronto and missed all the mid exams. Since I was quite worried about my mother??s illness and had little knowledge about exam deferral application at that moment, I got 0 on all the exams. When I came back on Mar. 5, I could still not fully focus on my study but suffering serious insomnia and can??t help concerning about my mother. After two weeks?? struggling, I eventually set up my mind and want to withdraw all the courses in this term and take care of my mother first. She will take operation in mid-April and I wish I could be there with her. Since all my courses are year courses, I wish I could withdraw them and re-take them one more time next year so that I can gain a better knowledge understanding and enable me to enroll in my despairing major successfully. As a first-year student, I fully understand the significance of solidating my knowledge foundation well. This is my first time to write such appeal and I have attached my mother??s doctor note below. I am the only child of my parents and my showing up during my mother??s operation would mean so much to her. I wish I could give her strength and share the good news at the first time after the operation. I wish I could go back to China without violating any university policy or impact my academic performance. Please don??t hesitate to contact me if more documents are required.
