Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I believe that I deserve a higher grade for my You're the expert assignment. In the delivery section, I was within 9-11 minutes at 9:58 instead of 11:15 minutes, but when I asked the teaching team, they said that since my presentation did not automatically start, they took into account the time it takes for the viewer to transition between slides, locate the audio clip, transition between slides and go to the next slide. I followed up asking where this was written in the rubric, which they replied with it stating that it was not explicitly written. In addition, in the rubric I received back, I was under in the Student does not adhere to time on task requirements (e.g. below 8 minutes or above 12 minutes). with a comment of You seem to have struggled with time on task for this assignment. Your presentation went beyond the 10 minutes +/- 1 minute maximum allotted. As such, you could not have scored higher on this section. Timing = 11 minutes, 15 seconds. I do not understand this placement since I was quoted to be at 11 minutes, not above 12.


In addition, I used both the pronunciation guide and Google to determine the correct pronunciation of the anatomical terms. I doubled checked for correct pronunciation with many online dictionaries as well. My visuals were all relevant, and I included extra arrows and words, further illustrating the points that I was referring. For instance, in the Atrium slide, I specifically pointed out the atrioventricular groove and in Atria to Ventricles, I further directed the pathway of the red blood cell. To emphasize the points I was making, I added many green arrows and red circles.

Finally, I had two discussion questions. The assignment said that I could use interesting facts; to fulfill the quota of having two questions on slides 29, titled Did you know? and 34, titled Think about it. The fact on slide 29 should be considered a question due to the inquisitive nature of the slide becoming a question-and-answer slide. Furthermore, I provided extra information regarding chordae tendineae and heartbreak, applying content knowledge to the real-life facts and fiction seen in the media. There was also no stipulation stating that I was not allowed to answer the question. It states, You are required to create and pose 2 thoughtful discussion questions ... and You are not required to answer these questions .... In addition, I answered the question I posed after more slides of information, not immediately after, which would not be considered recalling information as the answer was a few slides after the question. In addition, I gave the audience enough time to think about my question and then provided further information, illustrating an application-based question to test their understanding of the topic while fostering higher engagement. Both these questions fostered engagement in the circulation system and critically challenged their understanding of the heart and circulation system.
