Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Associate Dean Studies:
I am writing to request an appeal to drop ENGL 340 without penalties and also to appeal for an Aegrotat standing in ENGL 321 due to an extenuating circumstance which greatly impacted my school performance.
I was unable to confidently complete ENGL 340 and only finish up to 60 of ENGL 321 due to mental health issues, which eventually lead to hospitalization from March 12th till March 24th. During the weeks before my hospitalization, my academic performance suffered because of my mental health; this prevented me from adequately learning the course material. I was forced to priorities my assignments, and feel that I did not complete, as well as, learn enough to successful pass ENGL 340. But as for ENGL 321, I believe that I have finished up to 60 of the course material, because I focused more on this class when I was struggling.
After being discharged from the hospital, my mental health did not improve enough for me to properly finish the 2015 winter term. I was also admitted into the hospital in April twice for a short period due to my mental health. This has been an ongoing struggle, and I am currently in the midst of receiving sufficient treatment, before I continue my undergraduate degree.
School was not the cause of the problem, it is something that I am very passionate about, and I do wish to carry on successfully. But my mental health issues impacted my learning capabilities during the beginning of March till the end of the term; this tampered my ability to succeed. I will only proceed once I have managed my mental health, and in the following months, I will be receiving treatment. Then, hopefully, I will be able to return to Queen¿¿s University in September.
I have attached a letter from my psychiatrist, Dr. Simon J. O¿¿Brien, for proof of hospitalization and a note from my family doctor, Dr. Kristen Jones. Also, please get in contact with Professor Gwynn Dujardin in regards to ENGL 321, as well as Professor Mark Jones for ENGL 340.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Emily Ranft
