Petition Letter: Dear to whom it may concern,
I am writing this letter to submit a petition to request an extension of the deadline to drop a course for MATH 121/124 course, which ends in the winter term of 2023. The purpose of my petition is to request that my course be dropped without academic penalty due to extenuating circumstances beyond my control.
The reason for my petition is due to the family problems I have experienced. My grandfather was diagnosed with dementia, and his health condition rapidly declined. During the end of this term, I had to make several trips to visit him. In addition to this, my grandfather suffered from a heart attack, which added to the stress and anxiety my family and I were already experiencing.
As a result of my grandfather's health condition, I had to go back home from March 7 to the beginning of April to be with my family. During this time, I was unable to attend classes, complete my coursework effectively, or study for the exam. Despite my efforts to keep up with the course material, I find it difficult to study for the exam and provide my best work. My midterm grade was a 40%, and due to my circumstances, I know that I will not be able to achieve my best academic efforts.
I understand that the deadline for dropping a course without academic penalty has passed. However, I believe that my situation was beyond my control and has adversely affected my academic performance. Therefore, I kindly request that you consider my extenuating circumstances and grant me an extension to drop the MATH 121/124 course without academic penalty.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my petition.
Sincerely,
Kiranjeet Multani
