Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Subject: request for Aegrotat Standing
To whom it may concern,
My name is Jayden Levitt and I am a second year student. I am writing to request a Aegrotat Standing for my EMPR 260 course. After starting university last year, I really struggled with my mental health. I have tried a few different Queens resources such as Student Wellness and Counseling Services, but I am still not where I need to be. Things had escalated to a point that required a few visits to the hospital. I now take medication to try to control the anxiety and depression however it takes time to find the right type and dose to keep it at bay and even more time to feel like I can thrive again.
I suffered an injury to my knee after a fall at the beginning of the semester. Mobility was a challenge for a while and during that time, my relationships with my housemates went from strained to total exclusion. It??s difficult to live in a house with five other girls that make plans and purposely leave you out despite efforts to communicate the desire to be included. There are several other issues that occurred in the house over time that has made living there unbearable. After careful consideration and weighing the pros and cons, I made the decision to move out. This took a lot of extra work: Finding new housemates, signing a new lease, finding a student to take over my existing lease, physically moving all of my furniture, etc. Not easy tasks especially while preparing for exams. When I shared the news of moving out, things took another turn. Daily outbursts, bullying, rude behavior; all have had a terrible impact on me mentally which in turn, impacts my ability to perform as a student. With a history of self-harm, my mother and I thought it was best for me to move home for safety reasons.
My Employment Relations course has been online and I have worked hard to keep up my grades in all of my courses. I currently have an A in the class. I appealed to write the exam virtually, noting that there was an option for this. I was prepared to pay the fee and complete the course, however I was denied the opportunity. I have contacted many people throughout several departments to try and switch the exam to an online platform. I received an email saying I was granted this request, which provided a tremendous relief for me. A day after scheduling my exam with Examity, I received another email stating this was an error on Queens?? end. This was quite a disappointment as it provided false hope. Not sure what to do, I spoke with an academic consideration counselor who advised me to request an Aegrotat Standing based on my current situation.
I have been speaking with a Neuropsychologist for just over a year now as well as my healthcare practitioner to ensure I have a balance of tools, resources, and the right medication. I have set a goal for the summer, which is to prioritize my mental health and experiment with a variety of resources to decide which methods and tools align best with my needs. This process can be quite extensive but I am hopeful for the future as I continue to discover more tools.
Writing this letter has been quite difficult as I am sharing personal information with people I do not know. Given my situation, I hope my request for Aegrotat Standing is granted as this has been a very challenging time for me. Thank you.
