Petition Letter: Dear Academic Advisor,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to inform you that I had decided to drop the CHEM281 course, as per our previous conversation it was advised for me to consider dropping a course to help me balance my course load.
While I found the course material interesting, it was difficult to keep up with the workload, and it has been taking a toll on my academic performance in other courses. I appreciate the time you took to discuss my options with me and for suggesting that dropping a course may be the best solution.
I understand that dropping the course was dropped after the deadline, however after speaking to an academic advisor, I was told it is still possible and I would receive a NG on my transcript.
Thank you again for your guidance and support. Please let me know if there are any further steps I need to take regarding dropping the course.

Appeals to the Board of Studies must include a letter based on one or more of the Grounds for Appeal (Appeal Regulation 3.4). What are the grounds you are basing your appeal on?
- The Associate Dean's decision did not follow the rules of procedural fairness. A breach of procedural fairness includes such things as the Associate Dean failed to:
- Make a reasonable decision in your appeal. A “reasonable” decision is one that is based on evidence, thought out and supported by facts and logical inferences from the facts. To be reasonable, the decision must contain adequate reasons for the conclusions.

Appeal Letter: Dear Academic Advisor,
I am writing to appeal the decision to deny my request to drop CHEM281 after the course drop deadline. I understand that the university has a strict policy on this matter, but I believe there are circumstances that justify my appeal.
During the first few weeks of the semester, I did all my classwork and attended all lectures and felt a strong sense of understanding of the course. But as the semester progressed, I realized that it was becoming increasingly difficult to balance everything.
I reached out to an academic advisor and had meetings, as well as joining in the Zoom drop-in sessions. After speaking to an academic advisor I was told if I dropped the course but do not do the final exam I would receive a NG, which would not impact my GPA. Due to this, I decided to drop the course. However, if at the time I knew I was told I would receive an F, I would not have dropped the course.
I am now aware that dropping the course after the deadline will result in an F on my transcript. My main concern is that if I continue with the course, I risk receiving a failing grade, which would significantly impact my GPA. This would impact my financial aid for this school year.
I am committed to succeeding in my academic endeavours, and I believe that dropping CHEM281 would allow me to focus on my other courses. I understand that this may be an inconvenience to the department, and I apologize for any disruption this may cause. However, I hope you can understand my situation and grant my appeal.
