Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Ever since the end of high school, I have been fighting an addictive personality trait. More specifically it got me into an addictive behaviour to video games. I would not finish my work on time, I wouldn't sleep or eat properly and my academics decreased significantly I couldn't help myself, I was so lost and it almost felt like I had just given up on my academic path and career. I was at an all time low in my life and my university plan was suffering because of it. The courses I didn't want to enjoy I completely neglected. The only one I did enjoy was PSYC100 and I at least got enough work done in that course to finish with a C, all my other courses were either D's or an F in the case of MATH 121. I didn't seek professional help on this issue until being at risk of failing BCHM 218 in my second year. I have provided a note from my therapist to confirm when I started to seek aid to fix my problem. I am extremely grateful that I did and have been able to try and get my academic career back on track. I have been proud of myself to get where I am now from where I was a year ago. After many sessions with my therapist I was able to counter my addictive tendencies and focus on what I needed to in my, even outside of my courses. This way I could lead a much healthier and enjoyable life.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: I have taken the path of taking 4 courses each year instead of 5 to lighten my workload as I have no problem taking an extra year and achieving better grades this way. I also realized after failing MATH 121 that I unfortunately wasn't required to take the course. Many of the courses I was taking in first year were because I needed to since I entered the Life Sciences program fro high school. Now that I have discovered the subject I love which is psychology I have taken more course in this field and am enjoying my education so much more. Because of this shift in my course focus my grades have also improved Instead of failing and getting D's I am on track to receive 3 A's in PSYC100 (I am retaking this course so I can graduate with a psychology degree), PSYC241 and MUSC104. I also should finish with a B- in PSYC221 and finished with a C in my into level STATS course last semester (should've been a B but the exams in that course weren't my strong suit). I am looking at ways to better manager my workload as well during exam and midterm season as that's where I lacked previously. I found it hard to balance both weekly work and studying for those exams when I had 5 courses. Having 4 makes that much easier to manage so I can give equal focus to both parts of each course. I am also continuing with my therapist, not as frequently anymore but still importantly so that I stay on the right track with my lifestyle and to keep improving my academic strategies.
