Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean Stephenson,
I hope this letter finds you well.
In writing this letter I am formally requesting to extend my IN grade for GPHY 502 with Professor Dan Cohen until the end of the July-August Term (August 31st) as a result of the continuation of issues outlined in the previous term relating to ADHD and anxiety.
In the fall term I was unable to perform academically due to extenuating circumstances related to symptoms of ADHD and anxiety that were exacerbated by these personal events. In speaking with my Professor, Dr. Dan Cohen, and Wendy Morrison through student services at Queen??s, we developed a plan to tackle these disabilities while giving me the opportunity to eventually complete this research paper. This led to the first initial appeal for an IN grade with an understanding that it needed to be extended further due to the continuation of these circumstances.
With regards to the specifics of how I was affected by ADHD and anxiety during this time, I experienced insomnia, significant cognitive fatigue, increased inability to concentrate, leading to a systemic dysfunction. Overcoming and seeking help to overcome these obstacles was challenging if not futile because, in addition to all this, my living situation amplified my anxiety. After moving home to Toronto, I was living through abuse between my parents, resulting in self-isolation.
Despite these challenging times, I remain incredibly passionate about my research ?? the development of housing policy in the province of Ontario. In taking the much needed time this past term to process my situation and overcome the severity of my symptoms, I??m more than hopeful that I will be able to complete my research paper in the way that I intended.
