Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,
I am petitioning for a late course drop of PSYC 241 (Fall 2022) and PSYC 331 (Winter 2023). The extenuating circumstances beyond my control was the lack of necessary support to manage my mental health disability. It has impacted my ability to fulfill the academic commitments I made to these courses, and I would kindly appreciate the opportunity to retake them at a later time. The reason I did not attempt to drop them sooner is because I was only recently connected with an advisor through QSASS and more importantly the crucial support necessary to manage my diagnosis. Over the Fall and Winter term I was struggling not only to keep up with my courses but also manage my daily life. The reason I was unable to complete these courses is because they have very heavy and dense reading requirements which I struggled to complete and comprehend due to my mental health disability. My memory, and concentration were significantly impacted which made it impossible to meet the learning outcomes and assignments for the courses. In order to succeed going forward I have taken every step necessary to manage my condition such as reaching out to my family doctor, Student Wellness, and Queens support services for help. I have a plan with my family doctor and counselor in place which will make it possible for me to better manage my disability and fulfill my commitments to all courses. I am confident that I am now equipped with all the vital support and tools necessary to succeed in my degree program.
