Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Hi, I am requesting a late drop to STAT 263 from the fall term of 2022 and CISC 121 from the winter term of 2023.

I found STAT 263 fairly easy, I did well throughout the course. However, I don't test well, I get test anxiety very often. The fall term of 2022 was the first time I had ever written an exam. So I went to the STAT exam with no idea how to survive a four-hour long exam that tests you on all your knowledge from the term. When I received my examination paper my brain froze and simply blanked out. I had studied for the exam day and night but it was all for nothing.

CISC 121 was quite challenging, but I still thought that I could finish the course with a high grade. But unfortunately, I was very burnt out from the fall term that I didn't recognize the signs of my burnout. I noticed that I was struggling to keep the same course load that I kept in the fall so I decided to drop some courses. Up until March, I was doing fairly well in my classes. But the deeper we got into the semester the heavier the coursework was for each of my classes, which forced me into prioritizing another class over CISC 121 because the workload for that class was unbearable. Around this time my laptop also decided to stop working. One minute it would be fine, but the next it would act irrationally. I found this very frustrating, stress-inducing, and tiring especially when I would be practicing the CISC 121 course material. All of this did not help with my anxiety, stress, or burnout. During the exam period for the winter term I had 3 exams in the same week, my CISC 121 exam was the last of them all. For each exam, I was studying days ahead, but by the end of the week, I was exhausted. I went into the CISC 121 exam burnt out, anxious, and unable to keep my eyes open, and the exam itself was already pretty rough. All of that together caused me to perform poorly on the final exam which caused my overall grade to drop greatly.

My last and final request is to enroll in the summer term CISC 121. I was already enrolled in CISC 124 but after seeing my final grade in CISC 121 I've decided to retake it and work for a higher grade. In simple words, I am requesting a switch from CISC 124 to CISC 121 summer term of 2023.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: My academic plan is already in progress. I enrolled in full-time studies during the summer but then dropped CISC 124 which made my studies part-time, but it will go back to full-time hopefully when I get enrolled in CISC 121. During the summer I've decided to take another statistics course that is equivalent to STAT 263. STAM 200 will allow me to make up for the statistics credit. I am also taking one elective. And hopefully, I can get enrolled in CISC 121, which will help me make up for the winter CISC 121. The elective I am taking is going to allow me space to add an important class to my fall schedule, such as CISC 124. I am also planning on retaking the classes I dropped from the winter term during the fall. After all this is done, and everything goes to plan I should be back on the Queen??s timeline by the end of the fall term of 2023.
