Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am writing to petition for an opportunity to re-enrol in DEVS 260 for the 2023 Summer semester.
I initially enrolled in DEVS 260 along with STAM 200 for the 2023 Summer semester as I need the additional credit after dropping a course in the 2023 Winter semester and as I require a statistics credit in-order to progress with my sociology degree at Queen's.

However, due to my learning disabilities and mental health struggles, in addition to managing Type 1 diabetes, I dropped DEVS 260 in-order to focus on STAM 200, a course I am finding incredibly challenging to comprehend.

After consultation with the Undergraduate Program Assistant for the Department of Sociology, Michelle Underhill, I was advised to drop STAM 200 and take SOCY 211 in the 2024 Winter semester. I believe that this option will be the most beneficial to my academic progress given the format of SOCY 211 in comparison to STAM 200.

As I dropped a course in the 2023 Winter semester I will have to take 6 courses in the Fall semester in-order to graduate on time which is necessary given my family's financial position. I am hoping to re-enrol in DEVS 260 in-order to avoid having to take 6 courses in both my Fall and Winter semesters as I do not think I will be able to cope with the workload of 6 courses, given my learning and health profile.

As I was already enrolled in DEVS 260 I managed to take note of the content for week 1, leaving me well equipped to make up the missed content from the last 2 weeks. As a third year student, I feel fully equipped to make up the content I have missed so far and I am committed to filling in the gaps wherever necessary.

Thank you for your consideration, I hope to hear from you soon.
