Petition Letter: Hello
I am a transfer student, who spent 2 years at Nipissing University and 1 year at Queen's University. I am now entering my fourth year. The credit transfer process was long and stressful, and many inquiries, meetings, and overrides were initiated. I received my finalized list of successful transfer credits at the end of the Fall 2022 semester. The only for-credit class that did not transfer over was MATH 1070 (a concurrent-ed course). Therefore, I decided to plan for course overload, with one extra 3-credit course per semester. I work two jobs during the summer and did not want to compromise my academic success or work hours, as I pay for tuition and rent.
Therefore, I was not planning on taking any summer classes at all. However, when checking my degree requirements and creating a roadmap for the 2023-2024 school year, I realized some of my 6-credit courses from Nipissing had transferred, but only counted for 3 credits at Queens. I did not observe this difference in credits when reviewing my transfer list earlier, and assumed 6-credit courses would be given 6 transfer credits if accepted. I now have 4 extra classes I must take, which is too much for an overload.
Because I wasn't expecting to enrol in a summer semester, I did not pay attention to the add/drop date. I realize now it has passed, but I need to take two summer courses (with course overload next year) to graduate Spring 2024. Graduating on time is imperative, as I plan to apply to teacher's college and start Fall 2024. I have worked hard (with the help of QU staff) to put myself in a place where this can happen, but this particular circumstance is a hiccup.
I wish to be enrolled in WRIT 120 and CLST 205. I am on track to completing my SOCY-specific requirements during the school year, but need some more electives. I truly hope this does not derail my graduation plan. I have spoken to academic advising and am making an appointment to discuss course overload. My academic advisor also suggested I fill out this appeal form to enrol in two summer courses.
