Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am appealing for credit standing (CR) in PHGY214 (FW-2014/15). For the past four years I have been suffering from a health issue that has negatively affected both my personal and academic careers. With flare-ups of extreme exhaustion associated with this condition keeping up with the high demands of the Queens curriculum was incredibly difficult. During the fall semester I struggled to make it to class and spent the majority of the term behind on all of my courses. This prompted me to drop out of more than half of my first term classes, keeping just two in an attempt to focus my attention and produce more acceptable work. With PHGY214 being a FW course I hoped that an improvement of my condition second semester would allow me to get caught up on the material and start performing at a level that better reflected my actual abilities.
Although my health improved slightly over the winter term, the amount of material I had missed was significant and I was unable to bring my mark up to one that I could be proud of. With my best efforts there was a noticeable increase, however, my grades throughout second were not enough to bring up my low average from first term. This summer I will be seeing a specialist to determine a treatment course that will hopefully allow me to once again reach the academic goals I strive to achieve. In the mean time I will continue to consult an academic adviser and stay in contact with my professors to try and keep ahead of my situation as much as possible.
Kindest Regards,
Justine Aman
