Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am requesting to add courses to my summer term after the deadline to add classes. Due to extenuating circumstances, I am behind in the organization of my courses and therefore was unable to meet the deadline for adding courses for the May-June and May-July term. However, during the last week, I have met with several academic advisors at and with, counsellors and members of the consideration team at Queen??s University to discuss my options regarding my degree plan, graduation, and ways to ensure success in these classes. With that being said I decided to move my starting work date to later to take this time to dedicate to my academics and finish the courses I require to graduate. If granted entry, I am confident and dedicated to ensuring success in these courses. Amongst registration with ?Vetus?? accessibility services at Queen??s University, I have come up with a plan to make sure I am supported and complete my tasks for the required deadline even if facing struggles; this plan consists of meeting in person with a counsellor once a week (I can provide her name/ website and a note stating we have a plan to have regular sessions if needed) and revolve our sessions around focusing on prioritizing and completing school evaluations even in the event of extenuating circumstances, gaining the tools to be successful academically. Regarding more challenging classes requested to take in the summer term (such as ECON 223) I have reached out to several tutors and if permission to take these classes is granted based on syllabus, I plan to schedule sessions with tutors based on necessity before submissions which require extra help (can also provide copies of email, and upon acceptance name of the tutor who I will be meeting with). Two of the classes, COGS 100 and CLST 205, are re-take courses I plan to retake to achieve a higher grade. Since I have already taken these courses, I know how to approach tasks more efficiently. As for FREN 392, ENIN 400 and ANAT 100, I have spoken to students who have previously taken these classes and received helpful feedback and tips on how to succeed, giving me a better understanding of what these courses consist of and an idea of what the following weeks would look like for myself. Again, as of right now, my only priority is to complete these courses, which would allow me to graduate with a general degree in the fall, as was as raise my grade by retaking courses (CLST and COGS) that I did not achieve a high mark on. I am dedicated and feel supported to complete these courses. Upon permission, my next step will be to create an Excel sheet of all the due dates, the time I need to allocate for each task and the contact information of the professor and TAs to have check-ins with and ensure my work is meeting course requirements. Lastly, since I will have some catching up and planning to do, I have booked an academic advising appointment through Queen??s University for Tuesday, May 16th at 2:00 pm with Spring Forsberg; hopefully, by then, I will have heard back on my petition letter. Thank you in advance for allowing students to send in these types of requests, and thank you for your consideration.
