Petition Letter: Dear Queen's Arts and Science Petitions and Appeals team,
I am writing to request the withdrawal from MATH 121 formally and PSYC 100 courses. Embarking on my first year of college was both exhilarating and daunting. Adjusting to the unfamiliarity of being away from my loved ones posed a significant challenge. Nevertheless, I embraced this new chapter of my life with enthusiasm and determination.
However, I must share the unfortunate news that my grandfather passed away in August 2022, casting a somber shadow over my family. The loss was particularly difficult for my father, who was already coping with the passing of my aunt in December 2021. While I initially believed I could balance my personal responsibilities and academic pursuits, the emotional strain my family experienced began to weigh heavily on my own well-being.
In hindsight, I now realize how much my family's distress weighed heavily on my mind. Their well-being became a significant concern for me, and it often made it difficult to focus on absorbing new course material, especially in mathematics, a subject that has been challenging for me. I found it particularly hard during times of academic stress, especially during exams. The pressure of performing well academically only added to my existing stress about my family's situation, making it challenging to remain focused. While I made significant efforts to remain focused on studying and exam preparation, it proved to be easier said than done to compartmentalize everything else and solely concentrate on my academic pursuits.
Thank you for your understanding and consideration. I sincerely hope that I may be granted the opportunity to adjust my course schedule accordingly and seek the support needed to navigate this difficult period.
