Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Academic),

I am petitioning to drop the following courses due to extenuating personal circumstances which obstructed me from taking earlier action to alleviate my course load for the upcoming 2023 - 2024 year under probation: CISC 101 (Fall, 2021), MATH 110 (Fall/Winter, 2021), MATH 120 (Fall/Winter, 2021), CISC 121 (Winter, 2022), and MUSC 105 (Winter, 2022).

For the 2021 ?? 2022 year, I took prerequisite courses not in my desired degree plan due to family matters. Around early Fall term in 2021, I reached out to an advisor to discuss what my options were to get out of the situation after realizing I could no longer continue with my studies. I was advised to stay in my courses and finish the year to take my preferred course of study in 2nd year.

In early Winter term 2022, because of higher complexity of the course work, as well as the absence of my parents in the household which had caused a significant lack of emotional support from parents that occasionally triggered the mental health issues to emerge for which I was not able to put consistent effort to the course work, I could not meet the school??s benchmark.

The ongoing and added compulsion to complete my first year in undesired courses, as well as additional extenuating circumstances, obstructed me from taking action, such as looking further into it or anticipating any consequences, and thus prevented me from dropping courses within the deadline.

Due to strong re-established parental support and personal need, I am able to attempt to recover the drawbacks. I plan to retake some courses that serve as prerequisites for my program of study in Music starting this 2023 Fall term.
