Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Jenn Stephenson, Associate Dean(Academic),

I am writing to petition for a retroactive course drop of the English course (ENGL100) I took during the Fall/Winter 2023 term, an extension of an incomplete grade, or aegrotat standing in this course. I experienced significant struggles with my mental and physical health during this academic year and was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder that necessitated the use of antidepressants. This journey of adapting to new medications while simultaneously navigating through my first year of university took an enormous toll on both my mental and physical health, making my academics and schoolwork incredibly difficult to manage.

As a student, I have always been passionate about my studies and dedicated to excelling in all my courses. However, these struggles with mental and physical health had a profound impact on my academic performance during the Fall/Winter 2023 term. I found it incredibly challenging to keep up with the course material and complete assignments on time, resulting in the suffering of my grades.

While I understand the importance of maintaining academic integrity, I firmly believe that my circumstances warrant the removal of the English course from my official transcript. I am currently enrolled in summer school and anticipate gaining nine credits during this term, which will significantly boost my overall GPA. With the removal of the English course and the improved grades I am on track to receive during this summer, I am confident that I will meet the school??s guidelines for a satisfactory GPA.

I am an incredibly hard worker, extremely passionate about my studies, and am dedicated to devoting all of my time to improving my academic reputation and excelling in my future courses. I understand that this request carries a significant weight and so I appreciate your consideration.

Additionally, I feel it is necessary to inform you that if need be, my English professor, Dr. Christopher Fanning, has volunteered to support my petition. I can also provide a note from my family doctor to confirm my diagnosis and prescription of antidepressants.

Thank you for taking the time to review my petition, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information or clarification.

Sincerely,

Jessica Reichberg
