Petition Letter: Good afternoon,
My name is Mackenzie Porter and I have just finished my undergraduate degree in Health and Psychology. Unfortunately, I have failed my final elective, IDIS173. As a result, I am now three credits short of being able to graduate with honours, something I have been working towards for my entire academic career. As I??m sure you can imagine, this news has been pretty devastating, therefore I am doing everything I can to try to change it.
The reason I failed my course was not because I did not know the material or do well on assignments. In fact, my lowest grade in the course was a 77 and my highest grade was a 96. The reason I failed is because I have been working full time in a health clinic all year, as well as in full time school. I have also been in some pretty difficult courses, which is where the majority of my time and efforts were directed. As a result, it seems I let my final elective fall through the cracks and missed the final assignment. Without submitting the assignment, I was not able to pass the course.
I have already reached out to my professor, Dr. Butler, to see if there is any way my other assignments could be reweighted, or if there is any extra credit work I could do, in order to pass the course and get my last three credits. Unfortunately, he has said no and is not willing to hear me out or reconsider his decision. While I understand his choice, I disagree with his reasoning and honestly do not feel that I deserve to fail this course. I know missing the assignment is 100% my fault, but that does not mean I am not willing to do everything I can to make up for it and change my final grade.
That brings me to this petition, in which I am asking if there is any way my F in IDIS173 can be changed to an IN, allowing me to submit my final assignment and pass the course. This is the only option I have left, as taking another elective is not something I can handle mentally, emotionally or financially. Getting through the past five years has been one of the most difficult things I have ever done, and it would mean so much to be able to end it on a high note. Please let me know if there is any possibility of having my grade changed and earning my BAH, in time for my graduation this June. I already have my final assignment written, I would just need to be able submit it and have someone mark it before the graduation deadline.
