Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern, I am formally asking to be withdrawn from these three courses (COGS 100, CISC 101, CISC 102) due to an acute medical condition for which I have now finally been able to access treatment. Although registered with QSAS, current supports in place are outdated and do not meet the needs of my current condition which is supported by new medical documentation. My medical condition became acute as it was exacerbated by a physical medical condition two days following the last official date to drop courses without financial penalty. I was unable to successfully receive medical attention in Kingston, forcing me to go back to my hometown to seek local medical assistance. While trying to get this assistance and since the onset of my new symptoms on May 7th, my ability to actively participate in these courses and complete weekly course assessments and projects was severely compromised as I was under an enormous amount of stress which further exacerbated my current condition. I was finally able to receive assistance on May 19th and the documentation stating I am no longer fit to be in these courses was sent immediately upon receipt from the doctor as part of a long-term academic consideration request that would have me removed from these courses without academic penalty. Unfortunately QSAS misunderstood and misrepresented the information received and withdrew my application for long-term academic consideration as they mistakenly believed that my needs were being met by the supports put in place 4 years ago and are now outdated and no longer effective. I have been affected by this condition since May 7th which has prevented me from meeting all course requirements since the second week of classes despite my best efforts. Part of my confusion stems from not knowing who to contact or how to navigate this situation. I am truly hoping that I am currently following the due process that Queens requires in order to be removed from these courses without academic penalty so I can receive the help that I need without further exacerbating my acute condition. According to the ARTSCI calendar, the last day to drop summer classes without financial penalty is May 5th, but I am very confused about the last date to drop summer courses for the May/June semester without academic penalty. This is why I am submitting this petition in the hopes that I am meeting the deadline on the calendar for the last date to drop Summer Term classes (May-June/6W1 Session) without Faculty Office permission which is stated on the calendar as May 26th. This is not about wanting financial reimbursement, this is me trying to be withdrawn from these courses without academic penalty as I was wrongfully denied this right by the ArtSci academic consideration team.
