Petition Letter: I am writing this petition to appeal for credit standing in replacement of the grades awarded to me during the fall 2021 semester. In the fall of 2021, I was prescribed and began taking medication for a suspected bipolar disorder. During this time, I began experiencing micro-seizures, followed by episodes of inattention, forgetting, and cognitive impairment that greatly impacted my ability to function during the school semester, such as my ability to effectively complete and hand in assignments, and my ability to retain information studied for tests and exams. These symptoms progressively worsened throughout the semester until I sought medical attention from my family doctor in November 2021. A discussion with my doctor suggested these symptoms might have been side effects of the medications prescribed. It was not until February 2022 that I was put on a plan to be taken off these medications. My seizures and symptoms continued throughout the remainder of the fall 2021 semester, including during my exam period. The documentation attached highlights the presence of these seizures as discussed with my family doctor and the impact it had on me during the latter half of the fall 2021 semester. Given these circumstances that were beyond my control impacted my ability to function for a significant duration of the fall 2021 semester, I should be eligible for obtaining credit standing in replacement of the grades awarded. I apologize in advance for the late submission; I was made aware of this process through my academic advisor and the psychology undergraduate chair near the end of the winter 2023 semester. I am in relatively good standing at the university, and a review of my transcript will show that I experienced a significant drop in performance for the fall 2021 semester compared to other semesters.
