Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I believe that my academic achievements during that period were significantly impacted by extenuating circumstances that were beyond my control. Firstly, at the beginning of the winter term in 2023, I underwent the extraction of my wisdom teeth due to severe pain and discomfort. This procedure necessitated a considerable amount of recovery time, during which I experienced significant physical discomfort. The post-operative pain and swelling made it challenging for me to concentrate and focus on my studies effectively. This led to a disrupted sleep pattern, akin to insomnia, which further compounded the difficulties I faced. I had nocturnal sleep difficulties as a result of the persistent agony and suffering, which hampered my ability to study and absorb course content properly. The lack of sleep, combined with the recuperation process, left me weary and psychologically fatigued. Despite my best efforts to keep a consistent study schedule, I was unable to completely engage with the coursework due to the physical and mental strain imposed by the wisdom teeth extraction. Furthermore, being away from home during this time and coping with these health difficulties compounded my emotional state. The continual pain, poor sleep, and difficulties of being in a new place all added to a sense of isolation and a worsening in my mental health. The combination of these factors caused me to develop depressive symptoms, which hampered my ability to do well in school. I should add mention that, despite my best attempts, I continue to have sleeping problems to this day. The nocturnal sleep disruptions and insomnia-like symptoms continue to affect my academic performance. Recognising the necessity of resolving this issue, I am currently seeking medical assistance to address my sleep issues. I've made an appointment with a doctor to be evaluated further and to look into various remedies. Despite the obstacles created by these extenuating circumstances, I stayed dedicated to my studies and worked hard to make up for missed coursework and assignments. However, because to the lengthy rehabilitation and the associated hurdles, I was unable to regain all of the ground I had lost during that time. I kindly ask that you take into account my request for a revaluation of my academic performance. I am convinced that the extenuating circumstances I have described have a direct and negative impact on my capacity to achieve to my full potential. I am well aware of the significance of academic standards and the requirement of consistent examination. However, I am convinced that accounting for extenuating circumstances and their impact on my academic success would provide a fair and just assessment of my abilities and potential. I am convinced that if given another chance, I will be able to display the academic aptitude and commitment that have been masked by the circumstances I have endured. Thank you for your attention and time. I sincerely appreciate your understanding of my situation and willingness to reconsider my academic achievement. I am hopeful that this petition will be granted and that I will be able to continue my education at Queen's University.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: My academic performance has been impacted by the extenuating conditions I endured, specifically my physical illness and accompanying sleep troubles. I've already begun to address these issues and have devised a strategy to help me achieve my academic goals in the future. To begin, I am currently enrolled in four summer classes in order to improve my academic talents. Two of these courses are especially aimed at increasing my coding abilities, as I recognise the need of a solid programming foundation. I hope to flourish in future programming and related ideas by gaining a deeper understanding of coding fundamentals. Additionally, I am actively pursuing out-of-school courses to strengthen my grasp of mathematics. These courses will provide me with a more comprehensive understanding of mathematical concepts, which will undoubtedly contribute to improved performance in related academic disciplines. To further reinforce my understanding of key concepts and improve my GPA, I plan to retake the courses I struggled with during the affected semester. By dedicating additional time and effort to these courses, I am confident that I can achieve better outcomes and demonstrate a higher level of academic proficiency. Recognising the need of prioritising my mental health, I have also scheduled regular sessions with a therapist. These sessions will give me the direction and support I need to effectively handle the emotional impact of my challenging circumstances. I will be better able to focus on my academics and conquer any hurdles if I have a healthier mindset. In addition, I am aggressively seeking medical attention for my chronic sleep troubles. I hope to understand the underlying causes of my sleep difficulties and develop measures to enhance my sleep patterns by working closely with a specialist. Directly addressing this issue will surely benefit my overall well-being and academic achievement. I feel that by adopting this thorough approach, I will be better prepared to achieve academically and overcome the obstacles that have previously hampered my performance. I am dedicated to taking the necessary actions to ensure that my future academic results reflect my potential and commitment to greatness. I sincerely urge that you consider my petition for a reevaluation of my academic performance, taking into account the extenuating circumstances described above as well as the proactive actions I am taking to address them.
