Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am appealing to waive the 21-day appeal deadline. There have been extenuating circumstances that have prevented me from appealing within the timeframe. I have suffered from ongoing mental health problems that have interfered with my ability to perform well in school, as I have needed to take time off to seek the proper support.
Since January 19, 2015, I have been under the care of a physician to ensure my health and safety. After a three-week absence from school, I returned to my studies. Since then I have met with an academic counselor to discuss my plans moving forward. It was brought to my attention that I could appeal the grades that did not accurately reflect my capabilities due to my health issues. Since I was unaware of this process, I unfortunately missed the deadline.
I am hoping that you will take my situation into consideration when deciding whether or not to waive the 21-day appeal. I am an extremely hardworking student and hope that you will help me move forward in a positive direction. Should you grant my appeal, I hope to achieve academic success by maintaining my well-being under the care of my physician and/or taking a lighter course load.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Cortni Rees
