My name is Chelsea Roberts, and I am a psychology (arts) student at Queens. I am enrolled in SPAN 111 this summer, finding the course material extremely difficult. In high school, I was exempted from the requirement to take a second language because of my learning disability. However, this summer, I wanted to challenge myself and take an introductory course in Spanish. My dyslexia is interfering with my ability to learn a second language; this course is taking a disproportionate amount of my time compared to what is typically required. I??ve attempted to overcome my difficulties in this course by downloading educational apps (such as Duolingo) outside the course content. However, my performance is still not improving despite my increased efforts.
Additionally, this course negatively impacts my engagement in the two other classes I??m taking this summer. Today I am asking if I could drop the course with facility office permission (as I missed the deadline to do this without permission two days ago). Below I will attach documentation demonstrating that I was exempted from British Columbia??s requirement to take a second language in high school, which I had to explain to UBC when I applied in 2018 (as UBC requires a second language). Furthermore, I??ve included my current registration with queens student accessibility services to demonstrate that this is a specific component of my learning disability. Additionally, I understand I will not be finically compensated Thank you so much for considering my particular circumstances, and I look forward to your reply
