Petition Letter: My name is Aidan Vint, I'm a second-year student here at Queens. I am currently enrolled in BCHM 218 for the summer semester and I would like to be granted permission to drop the course even though it is past the drop date. Recently in the past two weeks, I have had to go home to BC to prepare and attend my dad's celebration of life, this was not planned as the event was not supposed to happen in the May-June time, however, we had to go through with it as there were several time conflicts with our close family and friends. I had not anticipated going home to BC and even getting the time off from work was a struggle, being home and preparing for my dad's ceremonies made it very hard to focus on my summer course, as such I had planned to drop it, however in all the commotion I was not able to drop the course in time, and have since realized that it is too late to do this without academic penalty. I had to take on a big role in the preparations as my mother is having a very hard time and was unable to carry out the planning, this took a very big toll on my performance in the course as I had to scramble trying to organize this event, as well as the toll it took on my mental health as I am still grieving the death of my dad. I am planning to seek consoling to assist in my healing from the grief of my dad's death as I am finding myself really struggling to focus on anything in my day-to-day life, and I would like to take the rest of the summer to focus on my healing process, as I have not adequately been able to take that time yet. It has become very apparent to me that I need to seek help as the effects have become very noticeable to me and have been considerably affecting my life. I would like to receive permission to drop the class without penalty due to my extenuating circumstances, I would be very grateful to receive permission to drop the course and I understand that this is not a standard option. Please let me know if there are any further steps I need to take to make this happen, I am more than happy to do whatever it takes in order to facilitate this and be granted the appropriate permission.
