Petition Letter
Petition Letter: My name is Maxine Bujouevs and I am currently going into my third year at Queen’s University. This petition is regarding my utmost enthusiasm for engaging in an international study abroad opportunity. Participating in an international academic experience is a privilege available to me that I find is the most educationally enhancing, diversifying and enriching adventure. Through the application of my current studies to a completely unfamiliar and new environment, I believe I can take my academics to a new degree in ways that I could not otherwise achieve locally. I currently have a 2.75 GPA, which I am expecting to raise soon with my current summer course, and am eager to commence my participation in international studies.
As a current sociology student, I am fascinated by the social sciences of human behaviour in interactions that I see in front of me every day. My brain operates with a sociological lens: I find myself comparing the behaviour of my friends in different situations, I clue into the impact that location has on diction and I analyze power dynamics that I witness. Considering this, an international experience would offer a rich and contrasting cultural unique environment and dynamic atmosphere that directly reflects my interest in not only advancing my academic career but also broadening my intellectual curiosity and scope. I wish to participate in an external study to engage in challenging discourse with individuals and groups with completely different backgrounds to a degree that I could not otherwise do at Queen’s. This opportunity would allow me to develop my capabilities, skills and knowledge on a multi-dimensional axis. Additionally, this opportunity will enrich my studies regarding social interactions on political and civil levels by challenging my pre-established perspectives and assumptions. If permitted to apply to international universities, I will take advantage of the environment to advance my academic studies, my social intelligence and my cultural integrity.
I am an individual who approaches my academic studies with an intersectional scope. I enjoy and benefit from amalgamating ideas I learn about in class with the rest of my life. My learning patterns combined with my hard work ethic, determination and perseverance would contribute to an overall beneficial and enriching experience that is studying abroad. I thank you for your consideration and time and look forward to hearing from you.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: During my time abroad, I plan to take 4 courses. Through my experience at Queen’s, this structure for a semester has worked well for me and has allowed me to allocate an appropriate amount of time to each course per semester. This course load has been supported by organized routines that have allowed me to confidently invest strong effort without being overwhelmed. Saying this, however, I am open-minded to expanding this course load to 5 depending on the course descriptions for specific schools and perceived rigour.
For the Bachelor of Arts Honours degree I am in, there is a required 160 units to be completed. I have currently completed 60 units suggesting I am directly on track to complete the BAH degree in 4 years total. I have currently completed 18 out of 60 units for my major, sociology, and 15 out of 30 for my minor, political science. Considering this, I plan to distribute my course load with approximately 3 sociology courses and 1 politics or elective course. Not only will this academic plan lead me in an active direction of fulfilling my major, but aligns with my goals for studying abroad as well. Being able to study societal functions and foundations in a completely different environment will open me up to a more profound understanding and scope of sociology. Specifically, I want to look at courses involving social control, consumer culture, work-life, and family dynamics. I am interested in these areas because I think I have the strongest understanding of these topics in Canadian sociology through my experiences, and applying a diverse approach through international studies will enrich my perspectives.
Specific breakdowns for each course of interest instructor details, including textbook information, method of evaluation, lecture descriptions, and prerequisites will be organized and provided if this petition is approved.
