Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Hi there,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to respectfully request your assistance in dropping CHEM 281 from my course schedule for the current summer term. Unfortunately, I have encountered unforeseen circumstances that have significantly impacted my ability to perform to the best of my abilities in the course.

Approximately a week before the scheduled final exam for CHEM 281, I tested positive for COVID-19. This highly contagious respiratory illness has caused me to experience a range of debilitating symptoms, including persistent fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and respiratory distress. Regrettably, I am still suffering from these symptoms, and I anticipate that they will persist during the upcoming exam. Given the nature of these symptoms, I firmly believe that they will have a detrimental impact on my exam performance.

I am genuinely concerned that if I am unable to perform well in the final exam due to my current health condition, it may result in academic probation. The implications of academic probation are not only academically challenging but also have broader consequences for my educational journey. It is imperative for me to avoid such a situation in order to maintain my academic progress and achieve my educational goals.

In light of these circumstances, I made efforts to seek academic consideration or accommodations for my situation. However, I regret to inform you that due to the absence of formal documentation, it was not possible for me to obtain the necessary support. While I understand the importance of documentation, the sudden onset of COVID-19 symptoms prevented me from seeking immediate medical attention or obtaining the required documentation within the designated timeframe.

I would like to emphasize that I am fully committed to my academic success and take my studies seriously. The challenges posed by COVID-19 have hindered my ability to devote the necessary time and energy to CHEM 281. To ensure that I can fully recover and perform at my best, I am seeking the opportunity to drop CHEM 281 for the summer term and retake it during the fall term when I have regained my health and can dedicate myself to the course with renewed focus and determination.

I kindly request your understanding and support in granting my petition to drop CHEM 281 for the summer term. While I acknowledge the importance of completing all required courses, the extenuating circumstances surrounding my contraction of COVID-19 have created an unprecedented challenge. By allowing me to drop the course, I will be able to focus on my recovery, regain my physical and mental well-being, and return in the fall with the ability to perform to the best of my capabilities.

Sincerely,
Althea Lau
