Letter of Explanation for Appeal

Dear Board of Studies,

I am writing to appeal the associate dean’s decision to deny my petition to waive the requirement to withdraw from my program for one year on the grounds that in my original petition some of the information that should have been relayed was not properly relayed in the letter that was provided.

The petition did not overview some of the ways that I was managing and continue to manage the extenuating circumstances I was under, so I would like to present some of the things I had done and ways I am continuing to branch out and utilize all Queens has to offer for support to ensure academic success and maintain good health.

During these difficult times I had reached out to some specialized grief councillors, but was unsuccessful with becoming a patient of theirs. Through their process to get a hold of them, I sent emails to explain the grief I was suffering and why I was looking for help. Through that process it helped me by getting things off my chest. They did respond, but had too many patients to take me on. After that I branched out to grief platforms and decided that because getting things off my chest without judgement, I submitted documents to grief platforms, read other people’s writings, talked to some people who understand grief (councillors and other people who have grieved over the loss of someone they love) online about how all of their outstanding work on grief and grief management had helped me feel less alone and was helping me.

Those platforms and people on them helped me quite a lot and made me realize asking for help and getting help is completely ok and good for everyone even if you aren’t grieving.

The past little while I have been in contact with the undergrad assistant in my department and she has been helping with questions I have about course load, courses that could be beneficial for me, talking about options within queens to utilize for therapy, counselling, etc. She has been quite helpful throughout this process and has done a lot to help me to ensure success academically and for my well-being. These resources I have been utilizing and the other resources I am looking into utilizing better at queens, helped manage my circumstances and I will continue to use these resources because over this past year I have begun to wholeheartedly accept help and reach out to ensure I do not fall into a place I was in before.

As well as utilizing the facilities and people available to me much more, I am going to reduce my course load to 4 classes a semester (which I have already put into my course planner on solus).
I hope through reading this letter you recognize the efforts I am and will continue to put forth. In regard to my circumstance and my academics, thank you so much for your time.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: An academic plan i have been working on with the help of people in my department as well as discussions with fellow Queens students (older than I) who have been in similar situations before is the following:

I am going to firstly reduce my courseload to four classes a semester focussing on classes that peak my interests as well as not choosing courses that are extremely difficult at the moment, but still staying into the realm of my final degree as to still benefit myself towards filling in all my requirements, i have already put the courses in my planner for the fall term and the winter is almost complete, just a few courses havent been stated whether they are taking place in the fall or winter so they are in the
