Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am writing this letter to formally submit a petition regarding my academic performance during the Fall of the 2022 semester and the subsequent Winter Term. I believe it is important to provide a clear and concise explanation of the extenuating circumstances that have significantly affected my ability to perform academically.
During the specified period, I experienced severe mental health challenges that had a profound impact on various aspects of my life, including my academic endeavors. I began experiencing heightened levels of anxiety and depression, which escalated to the point where I struggled to complete even basic daily tasks. Recognizing the severity of my situation, I sought professional help by meeting with a psychologist for therapy.
After several months of therapy, it was determined that my condition required additional intervention, leading to a consultation with my family doctor. Following a thorough evaluation, I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. To address these conditions, my doctor prescribed anti-depressant medication in the middle of the Fall Term.
Unfortunately, the initial medication dosage had unforeseen and severe side effects that significantly impacted my cognitive abilities and daily functioning. These side effects included intense brain fog, an inability to focus, and a lack of clarity, all of which hindered my capacity to study and learn effectively. Consequently, my academic performance suffered during this period.
In consultation with my doctor, adjustments were made to the medication dosage after a few weeks, aiming to alleviate the side effects and improve my condition. However, the adjusted prescription led to even more severe side effects, exacerbating my struggles throughout the Winter Term. Despite my determination and efforts, I found it incredibly challenging to engage in meaningful learning and complete course assessments to the best of my ability.
Throughout this difficult period, I maintained regular appointments with both my doctor and therapist. These sessions were crucial in monitoring and managing my mental health, as well as discussing alternative strategies to mitigate the impact on my academic performance. I was committed to seeking the necessary support and taking the recommended steps to address my extenuating circumstances.
I sincerely apologize for any negative effects my academic performance may have had on my overall standing within the university. I understand the importance of maintaining high academic standards, and I assure you that I have always been dedicated to my studies. However, the circumstances I have outlined significantly impeded my ability to demonstrate my true potential during the specified period.
In light of these circumstances, I kindly request that the university consider my petition and take the extenuating circumstances into account when evaluating my academic performance during the Fall of 2022 and the subsequent Winter Term. I am confident that with the appropriate support and understanding, I will be able to resume my studies and perform at the level expected of me.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I appreciate your understanding and consideration.
Sincerely,
Claire Lee
