Petition Letter: Dear Who It May Concern,
This letter addresses the request to drop a course after the deadline for MUTH 111, for the reason of extenuating circumstances of severe psychological challenge. The psychological challenges relating to mental illness. The impact that the psychological obstacles caused on my academic performance relate to my inability to complete coursework as a result of the distress which was caused. The exacerbation of my disability has resulted in a significant impact on my academic performance because I suffered from a lack of ability to concentrate on the course material and experienced insomnia. Here, I struggled to complete my assessments without experiencing aggravated symptoms of my disability. The effects of this exacerbation of disability have impacted my performance, just as I have failed to adequately retain content and subsequently demonstrate my understanding of my learning in assessments, such as the final examination and two term assessments. The duration of the psychological challenge began at the end of March 2023 and is currently on-going. The course material which was directly affected by this challenge were several formal assignments including two essays, and the final exam. In response to these psychological conflicts, I aimed to mitigate the effects during this exacerbated psychological challenge through requesting the support of my family physician who diagnosed me with a mental illness in 2018. Additionally, I worked closely with my QSAS advisor. Finally, I met with an academic advisor from the Faculty of Arts and Science who suggested that I request the professor to petition for an incomplete grade while I await the decision of this appeal.
Sincerely,
Alexa Bartels.
