Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am writing this petition to the board at Queen's University because, over the past year, my depression has really stumped my ability to learn. Over my last year at Queens, I had a few unexpected circumstances come up on me which really hurt my mental health and took my depression to a new level. I had a pet bunny who I brought with me from home. This rabbit was my best friend. I had looked after him for the last 3 years. One day after an 8:30 am lecture I got home from class to see that my rabbit was dead, this immediately sent me into a depression spiral and it wasn't easy for me to get going again. Immediately after I saw my bunny like that I was in bed probably more than 20 hours a day dealing with this loss, it made it hard for me to eat, get exercise, and go to class. This happened about a month into the Winter semester, and I was in a depressive state for the whole semester. I was not able to go to lectures after the first month, I couldn't get myself to do any readings or assignments, at best I was able to do some quizzes and small assignments but, I was just in such a bad mood all the time I couldn't get enough work done to be able to pass the courses. I took steps towards dealing with this circumstance but all the online therapy didn't really help. I was living with 1 other person who I wasn't that close to, so I felt like I was fighting a constant battle with no one to help me. Eventually, after differing most of my exams and failing a majority of my courses I thought that coming home would help my mood. When I got back home in Brampton my family got me another 2 bunnies to help me feel back to normal. Everything was great for the first week or two, until one morning after getting up to go to work I found one of the new bunnies stuck in the bars of my cage and passed away. Dealing with this a second time was no easier, I felt much worse and was now very anxious about if I should even have a pet. This started right around when I was supposed to start on my summer school course, I didn't get started on time because I was in such a depressed state and had no urge to do anything other than my 9-5 job. By this time it was a month into summer school and I couldn't get myself to complete any of my school work. I had a growing anxiety and wanted to be able to finish the course but I didn't know how I would be able to get the marks back that I had missed. After seeing my counsellor multiple times now and quitting my job I have been feeling better and better, I really want to be able to do over my 2nd year of Microeconomics Theory and progress towards my degree. I know I have it in me I went through the roughest patch of my life and I know if I can have just the ECON 212 dropped I will be able to make up for all the missed credits.
