Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I am requesting to appeal the 21-day appeal deadline so that an appeal for credit standing can be evaluated for two courses (MATH 121, PHYS 117) that I took in the 2013-2014 school year. A year has passed since I completed these courses and received my final grades, however I did not know, until today, that there was an available option to appeal for credit standing.
At the time these courses were taken and completed, I was unable to perform to my full potential, in every aspect of my life including academically, due to my parents separation. The separation occurred immediately prior to the start of the 2013-2014 school year and it continues to interfere with my day to day life, social interactions, and overall mental health. I did not receive any professional help, although I realize now that I should have and am looking to find some for the upcoming school year.
After receiving my final grades last year, I thought that I would not be able to succeed academically regardless of any outside help I could have obtained, and had essentially given up. I returned to school in second year with a better a marginally brighter outlook, but still did not know I had the option to receive credit standing and help improve my first year GPA. Now, I regret not seeking help and hope to rectify this situation and improve my GPA for greater academic success in my future.
