Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to formally petition for enrollment in a 3rd-year course based on extenuating circumstances that have significantly impacted my academic performance.

As an international student new to Canada, my transition to the Canadian education system, along with the challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic, has resulted in unforeseen difficulties in achieving all of my first-year course credits. The pandemic’s disruptions, coupled with my unfamiliarity with the academic landscape and adjustments to a new environment, have hindered my ability to meet the credit requirements for my first year.

I understand the importance of maintaining a consistent academic record, especially as I progress into my third year and strive to graduate on time. The extenuating circumstances I faced include the pandemic-related restrictions, which limited my access to necessary resources, and the associated challenges with online learning. These circumstances, compounded by medical reasons such as ADHD and anxiety, have directly impacted my coursework, leading to a lower credit attainment than anticipated.

In light of these challenges, I am seeking permission to enroll in a 3rd-year course to ensure that I can make up for the credit shortfall and remain on track for timely graduation. This would provide me with the opportunity to regain the academic momentum that was disrupted due to the aforementioned circumstances.

I have attached supporting documentation outlining the extenuating circumstances I faced, including medical records reflecting my ADHD and anxiety diagnoses. Due to the sensitive nature of the medical information, these documents are available in my confidential medical file with the university. Additionally, I actively sought assistance from academic advisors and engaged in consultations with professionals to address these challenges during and after their occurrence.

I kindly request your understanding and consideration of my petition. Your support in granting permission for my enrollment in a 3rd-year course would significantly alleviate the academic hurdles I currently face. I remain committed to maintaining a strong academic standing and completing my degree in a timely manner.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I appreciate your consideration and look forward to a positive resolution.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: Given the extenuating circumstances I have encountered, I am committed to proactively taking steps to ensure my academic success moving forward. I recognize the importance of both managing my medical challenges and excelling in my studies. As such, I have developed a comprehensive academic plan that outlines the adjustments I will make to support my academic goals:

1. Course Load Adjustment: I intend to adapt my course load to a more manageable level to ensure that I can focus on each course effectively. By reducing my course load slightly, I will have more time to dedicate to studying, assignments, and exam preparation.
2. Utilizing Support Services: I will continue to utilize the academic support services available to me, such as tutoring and study groups, to enhance my understanding of course materials and improve my performance in challenging subjects.
3. Consistent Communication with Advisors: I will maintain regular communication with my academic advisor to ensure that I am on track with my course selections and progress. This will help me make informed decisions about my academic path and ensure I am meeting program requirements.
4. Regular Consultation with Medical Professionals: I am committed to scheduling regular meetings with my medical professional to monitor and manage my ADHD and anxiety. This will ensure that I am receiving appropriate treatment and support to manage these challenges effectively.
5. Time Management and Study Techniques: I will actively work on improving my time management skills and studying techniques to maximize my productivity and ensure that I allocate sufficient time to each subject.
6. Wellness and Self-Care: Recognizing the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance, I will prioritize self-care activities such as exercise, relaxation techniques, and mindfulness practices to manage stress and enhance my overall well-being.
7. Consideration of Program Changes: While I am currently pursuing a specific program, I am open to exploring other program options that might align better with my strengths and accommodate my extenuating circumstances more effectively.

I am aware that the implementation of this academic plan requires dedication, discipline, and adaptability. By focusing on a holistic approach that addresses both my academic and personal well-being, I am confident that I can overcome the challenges I have faced and achieve success in my studies.

Thank you for your understanding and consideration of my petition. Your support and guidance are crucial in helping me navigate these challenges and emerge as a resilient and successful student.
