Petition Letter: Subject: Petition to Drop Summer Classes and Waive Associated Fees

Dear Dean,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to respectfully request your understanding and consideration regarding my current situation with regard to two summer classes, ECON 212 and ECON 223, for which I am seeking to drop after the designated drop date. I understand the importance of adhering to university policies, and I would like to explain the extenuating circumstances that have led me to this request.

Over the past three years, I have been engaged in an ongoing battle with mental illness that has taken a significant toll on my overall well-being and academic performance. As documented by the Student Wellness Center, I have faced various challenges related to my mental health, including multiple visits to KGH and counseling. Additionally, I endured a traumatic experience during the most recent school year, which further exacerbated my condition and made it incredibly challenging for me to maintain my studies effectively.

Due to these debilitating mental conditions, I found myself unable to participate actively in my coursework during the summer session, including the classes in question. Despite my best efforts, I was unable to engage with the material and fulfill the requirements of the courses. Unfortunately, this also prevented me from taking the necessary steps to drop the classes within the designated time frame.

In light of my situation, I am humbly requesting the following:

To be granted permission to drop the aforementioned summer classes, ECON 212 and ECON 223, even though the official drop date has passed.

To waive the associated fees for these classes, as my documented mental health struggles and traumatic experiences significantly impacted my ability to participate and make informed decisions about my academic pursuits.

I understand that the university's policies are in place to ensure fairness and consistency, but I sincerely believe that my circumstances are exceptional and warrant consideration. Furthermore, I would like to highlight that the OnQ progress records will demonstrate that I was unable to access the course materials or participate in any meaningful way, indicating that the classes were never opened on my end.

I am fully committed to my academic journey and value the educational opportunities that Queen's University provides. I believe that with the support and understanding of the administration, I can overcome these challenges and continue on the path of academic excellence that Queen's University represents.

Thank you for taking the time to review my request. I am hopeful that, given the circumstances, you will grant my appeal and provide a solution that recognizes the complexities of my situation. I am open to any further discussions or documentation requirements that may be necessary to support my petition.
