Dear Dr. Jenn Stephenson,

I am very grateful for your consideration and for allowing me the opportunity to return to my academics at Queen’s University in September 2023. I wanted to make a request to drop the failed courses during the 2021/22 academic year. I have found a document, a Sick Note that I received from my doctor on January 28th, 2022, and submitted a copy. The document briefly explains that I was unable to work and/or attend school – it relates back to the time frame when I was experiencing extenuating circumstances.

On May 11, 2021, I started a full-time job as a security guard at the Courthouse. My job was to screen the clients that were entering the courthouse building - to ensure they had no symptoms of COVID-19. I was really happy with my new job, and I was promoted to Supervisor Security on June 18th, 2021. After being promoted things quickly changed, it became a toxic work environment. After 8 months of chronic stress, it came to a point where I couldn’t eat or sleep, I was always overwhelmed – I decided to meet my family doctor. On January 28th, 2022, I had an appointment with Dr. David Prupas – I explained my situation and he approved me for sick leave for a month. However, I was advised that the Courthouse site was coming to an end – I decided to push through the negativity and continue working. But it was a constant mental battle that left me exhausted and empty by the end of my shift. In April 2022, the Courthouse site finally came to an end. For the entire 11 months that I worked there – I was in survival mode. I was not able to concentrate on my studies, and as a result, I failed all of my courses during the 2021/22 academic year.

Although the Courthouse was one of the most stressful experiences I had as a Security Guard, it gave me lifelong lessons and made me a stronger individual. I appreciate your consideration of my request to drop the failed courses.
