Appeal Grounds

Appeals to the Board of Studies must include a letter based on one or more of the Grounds for Appeal (Appeal Regulation 3.4). What are the grounds you are basing your appeal on?
  • The Associate Dean's decision did not follow the rules of procedural fairness. A breach of procedural fairness includes such things as the Associate Dean failed to:
    • Follow the university rules and regulations in a way that supported your right to a fair process.
    • Make a reasonable decision in your appeal. A “reasonable” decision is one that is based on evidence, thought out and supported by facts and logical inferences from the facts. To be reasonable, the decision must contain adequate reasons for the conclusions.
  • The Associate Dean's decision acted without, or exceeded their, authority.
Appeal Grounds Details: Dear Academic Advisory Team,
I am Ningjing Gan, student ID 20200677, currently a senior in the Honors program. I have already been approved to take 6.0 units outside of Queen's at Soochow University in the Fall semester and I hope to get approval for taking additional 3 courses at Athabasca University during the Winter Semester. I have completed all required and core courses, with only elective courses remaining. Given my urgent need for internship experience, I wish to apply to participate in online courses outside of our university and to transfer these credits to my degree program. This is crucial for my future career development, and I believe that internship experiences will enhance my understanding of my field. The online courses I plan to enroll in include ClST201(https://www.athabascau.ca/syllabi/clst/clst201.html),CMNS202(https://www.athabascau.ca/syllabi/cmns/cmns202.html),FNCE249(https://www.athabascau.ca/syllabi/fnce/fnce249.html)offered by Athabasca University. These courses primarily cover Personal Investing, Media and power in Canadian Society, and Cultural Studies and Everyday life. I seek your assistance in reviewing the content of these courses and confirming their eligibility for credit transfer towards my elective requirements. I hope you can understand and support my upcoming academic plan. Next semester, I am facing significant career development opportunities with numerous offline interviews, which are crucial for my future career path. However, this means I will be unable to fully participate in all offline courses.
The range of online courses offered by Queen's University is limited and does not meet my current needs. Therefore, I am requesting your approval to take online courses outside of the university and transfer the credits. This will ensure I can maintain a balance between my academic pursuits and career development.
I fully understand that this request might require special consideration and approval. I assure you that the chosen online courses will be closely aligned with my academic goals and professional direction, and I will ensure these courses meet the academic standards of Queen's University. I am willing to provide any necessary course information, including syllabi and details of the teaching institutions, for your review.
Thank you for understanding and supporting my educational journey. I look forward to your positive response and promise to strictly adhere to all the university's regulations and requirements.
Thank you very much for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Ningjing Gan
