Petition Letter: Dear Petition Office Staff:

This is Xinying Huang, currently in year 3 of BAH program, majoring in Applied Economics. Student Number: 20286002. I’m writing this Petition for my upcoming transfer credits (15 credits) from Soochow University this fall. I’m taking 3 courses at Soochow University. They are ECO 215 The Rise of the Industrial Economy; ECO 330 Labor Economics; and ECO 340 Development Economics, which will be used to fulfill my credits at Queen's University for the optional courses (ECON231, ECON360 and ECON239 respectively ). I will explain my reason for taking these courses below.

Firstly, I chose to take courses at Soochow University to enable me to complete my studies and graduate on time. To graduate on time, I still have 63 credits to go. I have to go back to China (my home country) for the summer to do an internship as well as to take care of my grandma who has already tested for Alzheimer's disease. I have only fall and winter to take courses, which means that I will have more than 5 courses in a specific term. I chose to put the 6 courses load in this fall as I’d focus more on my career planning in my 4th year of university. At the same time, I wouldn't be able to manage a series of exams at the same time, so I chose to take 3 courses at Soochow University as the courses as they start and end a course at a different time to Queen’s University. With staggered exam times at two universities, I will also be able to do a better job of completing my studies to prevent failing courses and delaying my graduation.

Secondly, taking courses at Soochow University will help me with career planning. Considering my studies and my family's situation, I am thinking of coming back to China to work in international trade or marketing. The courses at Soochow University will allow me to gain an understanding of how Chinese universities teach and the different perspectives and insights they have on the same economic model. I can learn more about the Chinese academic environment and its understanding of the economy. At the same time, this cross-country study experience will help me understand the future career environment.

Thirdly, I also chose to take courses at Soochow University because of my interest. I was born in Zhejiang Province, which is very close to Suzhou, and I have been to Suzhou before. I was very impressed by the city's prosperity and rapid development. Therefore, I would like to know more about this city and its excellent school, Soochow University.
