Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: My name is Chuyu Xu (student number: 20351732) and I am petitioning the School of Economics for a decision I hope to be able to rejoin Econ 212 (Fall 2023).

I am a student in the Department of Economics, and Econ 212 is my core course this semester. Due to a mistake on my part, I swapped this class with another class when I changed courses for the semester. The first thing I wanted to do was add it back, but even though there were still spaces available in the course, the system said I couldn't re-enter the course. I've communicated with the professor and the economics department, but I can't get into the course because it's past the final add time. This course is a prerequisite for all my 300-level and 400-level core courses. If I cannot participate in this course, I will not be able to participate in subsequent courses normally. This means that I may not be able to complete my studies as scheduled and may need to delay my graduation.

I had studied the course carefully in the first two weeks, had a good understanding of the subject, and was completing the assignments, and it was not my intention to drop the course. This seriously affected my later planning. I am applying for a foreign internship program in my third year of college and have been preparing for it for half a year. My plan is to complete my sophomore-year courses this semester and take my junior-year courses next semester. If I am unable to participate in this course, I will not be able to successfully complete my junior year course. In my senior year, I will be faced with the dilemma of having to study five 400-level courses in one semester. This is impossible for me, and my future plans and grades will be affected. At the same time, this complements Econ 222 and Econ 255 which I am currently studying. If I cannot study Econ 212, it means that I will also be hindered in the study of the remaining two courses. So I eagerly hope to rejoin the study of this class.

I hope that the college will understand and consider my situation so that I can rejoin Econ 212 (Fall 2023). Thank you to the college for your support and understanding.
