Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,

Regarding the Winter 2023 semester courses GNDS 125, GNDS 215 and LLCU 213. During half my Fall 2023 semester and the whole duration of Winter 2023 semester I was homeless. I did not have a permanent address or place of residence and due to this housing insecurity, I was forced to put more of my efforts into figuring out where I would be staying for the night daily. My academics suffered dramatically in addition to my mental health declining into an extreme depressive state and physical effects to my health as a result. I was working as much as possible, while trying to find available housing that I could afford and was unable to do so. Due to all these other aspects happening in my life, I was unable to focus my efforts on my academics. Situations like these are extremely difficult and I continuously did reach out to Laurie Hooke in Student Wellness, where I was able to have some food security, and reach mental health resources, however by the end of the semester was unable to secure housing. This aspect played a significant role in my academics because it made me focus my efforts away from academics.
