To Whom It May Concern,

I am a 3rd year student thoroughly enjoying and pursuing a Sociology degree at Queen’s. I am a curious student who seeks to engage in every academic opportunity available as part of my Queen’s experience.

I am writing to make a formal request for your consideration and support for my participation in the study abroad IFSA program located in London, England. I believe this study abroad program will significantly benefit me and my study of Sociology. Having the opportunity of living in another country will help me develop personally as I explore a new culture and interact with different people from around the world. I chose London, England because I previously have spent a couple of weeks in London when I was in high school and have always wanted to return to learn more about their culture, history, society and way of life.

As a Sociology major, I believe it is essential to my studies to experience and understand the different perspectives of and behaviors in other cultures. Sociology is about the study of people and how they are impacted by social challenges. So, engaging with people in a different country with different challenges will broaden my perspectives on topics learned in the classroom, allowing me to bring a new perspective into my final year. It will also be very interesting to see how they approach the study of Sociology and its diverse set of topic areas.
