Petition Letter: Hello! I hope all is well. My name is Andrew and I would like to drop MUSC 221, my applied lessons.
I would like to preface that while I was brought up as a classically trained guitarist, my primary instrument over the last few years has been the electric guitar. During my first year at Queen's in 2021, I gave up the electric guitar to allocate more time for classical guitar, being that I have enrolled into a classical program. The result of this was a heavy burnout towards guitar as a whole. When my 2022 Winter term ended, I made the decision to take a gap year as a way to create some room to breathe. However, I greatly underestimated the burnout, which result in it lingering until around four months before I was scheduled to return to Queen's. During these four months projects started to blossom, and I was making a name for myself as a session guitarist. But with this new found sense of direction, I had to once again halt the progress to continue classical guitar.
I felt fairly confident and happy to continue classical guitar this term, but ever since returning to studies my mental health has been at an all time low. Even with the aid of prescribed medication, I still find myself falling into depressive episodes. Factoring in the course load that awaits me in the Winter term, I fear that if I am struggling now with a mere three courses, it will be absolute chaos for me in the Winter term.
I graciously thank you for your time, and I sincerely apologize to dropping this course this late into the term. I hope to hear from you soon!
Kindly,
Andrew Chen (BluhEw)
